Why buy a data SIM card in Korea?

Sure, there are lots of public hotspots and WiFi-powered cafes in the country. Most likely, your accommodation will also provide you internet access. But most of your time will be spent outdoors, googling your way to the next destination, and sharing about your experiences on social media. For these reasons alone, it’s wise to buy a SIM card that you can use for apps like your browser, Facebook, Instagram, Google, Netflix, or what have you.

With a data SIM card in Korea, you will also be able to make online calls and texts through social apps like WhatsApp, Kakao Talk, Messenger, Line, and Viber. Moreover, if your phone has a mobile hotspot function, you’ll be able to connect your other gadgets seamlessly.

Why book your unlimited data SIM card in Korea from WAUG?

It’s what I did, and I was highly satisfied. With the SIM card that I picked up at the KT Olleh Booth at the airport, I was able to connect to the internet easily. I didn’t have to worry about any data caps since the plan is unlimited. What’s more is that their SIM card is reasonably priced and easy to install. (I sound like a very eager salesman, but I am just a happy customer!)

The SIM card in Korea that you can book online on WAUG provides reliable internet connection. Unlike some users who reported a decrease in speed for other options, my experience with this SIM was smooth all throughout. Fortunately, I did not notice any lags even after using it for work and leisure for seven (7) days.

However, if there’s one thing that I wish the SIM card telco provider would offer, that would be a package for 15 days. Some travelers do spend around two weeks in South Korea, so if there’s such a plan available, we wouldn’t have to settle for the 30-day plan.

Where to Pick Up Your SIM Card in Korea: KT Olleh Booths & Hongdae

Once your booking goes through, expect to get an email confirmation and voucher from WAUG. You will have to present the voucher along with your passport when you’re ready to pick up your SIM card in Korea. (You can either show a printed or mobile voucher to claim.)

Here are the pick-up points:

Hongdae.

1. Hongik University Station (Hongdae)

Link Korea Office at 22-12, Sinchon-ro 4-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea (Exit 5 or 7).

2. Incheon Airport Terminal 1

KT Olleh Booth at the Arrivals Hall (across Gate 10). Open from 6am-10pm.

3. Incheon Airport Terminal 1

KT Olleh Booth at the Arrivals Hall (across Gate 6). Open from 10pm-6am.

4. Incheon Airport Terminal 2

KT Olleh Booth at the Arrivals Hall (between Gates 2 & 3). Open 24 hours.

The SIM card kit that you will receive will come with a manual. It’ll basically say that you’re supposed to restart your phone and wait for a few minutes before it gathers the signal. In my experience, I only had to restart my phone once and wait for around 3 minutes.

Can’t I just buy a SIM card for Korea at Incheon Airport?

Sure, you can also purchase an unlimited data SIM card in Korea without ordering online. Just walk up to any bookstore, convenience store, or any of the KT Olleh Roaming centers listed above. The only downside is that you’ll have to pay the full price.
