Hana Bank, a foreigner-friendly financial institution in South Korea, has designated Sunday branches where you can open an account and transfer money overseas.

Highlights
- If you’ll move to Korea or just recently settled in, chances are you’re looking for a bank that caters to foreigners.
- I’d recommend banking with Hana for the main reason that they make setting up an account and doing overseas remittance simple.
- They also have designated Sunday branches, which is convenient if you’re only free on weekends.
- If you’d like to save money whenever you eat out in Seoul or go on a trip (for example, visit Everland or Ganghwa), get WAUG — Korea’s No. 1 activity booking app. Sign up for an account here and get $3 off of your first booking!

Why choose Hana Bank in Korea?
If you’re researching for banks in Korea, consider Hana (formerly KEB Hana) since they’re known to provide products and services that cater to the needs of expats. Aside from having a couple of English-speaking staff, here are the reasons why I chose this bank:
First, Hana has designated Sunday branches for foreigners in various parts of the country (and possibly the only financial institution in Korea that offers this service!). As someone who has a 10am-7pm job, it’s not ideal for me to choose a bank that’s only open on weekdays. I don’t want to take time off work whenever I need to perform a transaction or inquire something about my account, so the weekend banking feature was a huge plus for me.
Second, they make setting up an account easy. Some banks in Korea may require you to present an Alien Registration Card (ARC), but in my experience in Hana Bank Hyehwa branch, I only had to present my passport and visa. (I also had to pay a fee of around ₩4,000 for the digital certificate, which is required to get a long-term SIM card and perform online transactions.)
Last, Hana Bank has the tech that’s designed for foreigners. As a customer, I get access to their 1Q Global Banking and 1Q Transfer, which are two apps for online banking and overseas remittance.
If you want to know more about Hana Bank, I’d encourage you to visit any of their Sunday branches (again, these are designated for foreigners!) and inquire about their offerings.
